STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Dany Heatley has talked a lot about doing more for the Ottawa Senators than just score goals.
He's about to get that chance.
In a surprise decision, given the number of veteran players there are on the team, coach Craig Hartsburg has picked Heatley to be one of his assistant captains.
Chris Phillips, who wore an A last year, will wear it again this year, while Daniel Alfredsson, of course, remains the captain.
Hartsburg could have chosen any number of players. such as Jason Spezza, Mike Fisher, or Antoine Vermette, all of whom have played their entire careers here.
And Hartsburg said he looked, too.
"There were a lot of other guys we looked at," he said.
"It was just my conversations with Dany over the summer, and watching and observing from the start of training camp and how they,re acted or interacted with their teammates, their work habits, and I think Dany will do a good job for us."...... "
